Our History
I met a Belgian Sheepdog for the first time in Davis CA in 1976. He was
"Marco", CH Sindy de la Baraque de Planches CDX, ROM, owned by
Ellen K. Haro of Greenfields Belgian Sheepdogs. He was her demonstration
dog in the obedience class that she was teaching. I did not know what he
was, but his allure was so great that I couldn't take my eyes off of him
and knew that this was the breed that I had been unconsciously searching
for all my life. After Don and I married in Dec. 1981, he surprised me
with a fuzzy bundle of love, a Marco grandson from Ellen, as a wedding
gift. The delightful puppy that captured our hearts and began our odyssey
in Belgian Sheepdogs was "Hurri" who grew up to become Ch Greenfields
Ouragan CDX, HIC, TT, agility prior AKC.
We breed very in frequently, for ourselves and to improve upon the parents. We breed the best to the best, carefuly selecting for sound temperament, health and longevity, correct structure and movement, and work ethic/biddability. To date, two of our males have been bred: one once, the other twice and his semen has been saved. We have bred one litter from each of four bitches, keeping at least one puppy from each. From some of these we continue to strive for beauty, brains, and function in our dogs, training and participating in all venues. Our odyssey in Belgian Sheepdogs continues to unfold.
